Food & Drink Tour - Central Lakes

If your a real foodie, this delightful culinery tour will take you around the central lakes to really test the tastebuds!



After your overnight stay at the award winning Holbeck Ghyll Hotel in Windermere, dining in their 3 rosette restaurant for breakfast, what a way to start the tour!
We now head just up the road to Ambleside and call in at Lucy's Specialist Grocers - delicatessen where you can stock up on tasty treats and at Lucy's on a Plate - cafe & restuarant, where you can eat tasty treats!
Now heading further up the road is the beautiful Grasmere village, the home of the famous Grasmere Gingerbread Shop. Baked daily for the last 154 years to a secret recipe, delicious - you'll be hooked!

Lake District Foundation


This fascinating little shop was built in 1630 as the village school, and is where Wordsworth occasionally taught. In 1854 it became the home of Sarah Nelson's world famous original celebrated Grasmere gingerbread.

Speciality: Gingerbread, Rum Butter, Local Produce & Ginger themed products.



Take lunch at the culinery gem with a well established following of food enthusiasts. Jericho's Restaurant is relaxed, friendly and a real food haven.


Head back to Ambleside and take the road for Hawkshead. If you fancy a quick thirst quencher, look out for a turning on the right and a sign for The Drunken Duck Restaurant & Inn. The heart of the Duck is its bar with its wide oak flooring, old beams, an open fire, numerous pictures, leather club chairs & a beautiful Brathay Black slate bar top from the local quarry half a mile down Duck Hill. Initially set up to provide the Duck with its own beers, Barngates Brewery now produces a range of award-winning real ales, supplying many other inns throughout the north of England.
Carry on now, to the picturesque village of Hawkeshead, here you have afternoon tea in one of the many quaint tea shops. The famous Hawkshead Relish Company is located in the square. This multi award winning makers of relishes, pickles and preserves, all handmade in Hawkshead. Tasty gifts to take home!
Take the ferry across Lake Windermere back to Bowness on Windermere.

From Bowness on Windermere head towards Kendal, then take the turning for Staveley. Relax by the log fire with a fine wine or a good local real ale or relax on a warm summers evening, hearing the river Kent bubbling past, and indulge in one of the tasty dishes from our interesting and varied menu at the Eagle and Child Inn. At the Eagle all the food is freshly prepared in house. Using village suppliers for meat and fresh breads with fish and game coming from Hawkshead and Cartmel. They also offer a variety of tasty, freshly prepared vegetarian dishes. The restaurant and bar offer a traditional feel, with slate floors, exposed beams and real log fires. The high standard of the food being complemented by the cosy atmosphere.
