Historic Swarthmoor Hall

Historic Swarthmoor Hall

The room where Frances Howgill and other founders of Quakerism met and planned the mission of the Valiant Sixty preachers.

'Valiant to the Truth'. Francis Howgill, who died 350 years ago, , was a leader of the Westmorland Seekers, many of whom became convinced by Quakerism on Firbank Fell in June 1652. He became one of the Valiant Sixty who travelled throughout the Briish Isles and beyond, spreading the message and turning people towards the Light within. What can we learn from the Valiant Sixty and from Francis Howgill in particular? Includes opportunities to join short Quaker Meetings for Worship (optional).
