Cumbria Tourism Awards

Vote for your favourite tourism event 2017

The Cumbria Tourism Awards celebrate the best Cumbria has to offer and are now in their 15th year. Cumbria’s tourism businesses, and the talented individuals behind them, drive a visitor economy worth £2.62 billion. Their achievements, hard work and dedication are worthy of recognition.

Cumbria offers ever increasing levels of quality and service to our 43 million annual visitors and the Cumbria Tourism Awards recognise those businesses offering excellence and innovation in their product, service, welcome, marketing and sustainable practices.

For our Tourism Event of the Year award we open it up to the public to vote for their favourite in 2017. Below are the four shortlisted events for you to vote for. Only one vote counts in the scoring. Voting closes on Monday 5th June, when all the votes will be counted and the awards panel, along with the event applications decide the winner. The shortlisted event finalists all gather with the other 16 award category finalists, at the celebratory evening at Cartmel Racecourse on the 21st June 2017.

Go Herdwick public art trail

Calvert Trust

Conceived and delivered by Lake District Calvert Trust - the UK’s leading provider of activity holidays for people with disabilities - the Go Herdwick public art trail took a proven model for community engagement and charitable revenue generation and turned it into a uniquely Cumbrian concept.

Between March and October 2017 in excess of 45,000 people took part in the trail, with the £257,000 raised going towards the charitable objectives of the trust.

Beatrix Potter 150th Anniversary

Throughout 2016, The National Trust celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter across Cumbria. Her name is known across the world and the massive interest shown reflects the love that people have for her tales.

They consciously chose to work in partnership with many others to raise awareness of Beatrix her life and to encourage people to come and visit the Lakes to learn more about her and this wonderful, inspirational landscape.

Where is Peter Rabbit?

Where is Peter Rabbit

The world premiere of the brand new Beatrix Potter musical adventure, Where Is Peter Rabbit? opened last summer to high acclaim at the Old Laundry Theatre in Bowness and was enjoyed by over 20,000 visitors.

Created for the double celebration of the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction’s 25th anniversary and Beatrix Potter’s 150th, the theatre show brought five much loved tales to life on stage, capturing their poetry, freshness and humour, whilst staying true to the unforgettable illustrations.

The Winter Droving

Created by arts charity Eden Arts, the 5th year of The Winter Droving attracted 20,000 people - the biggest yet - and brought £1.2m to the local economy. It’s Cumbria’s hippest celebration of agricultural heritage and carnival culminating in a distinctive fire and lantern parade that attracts national press and TV.

The event puts Penrith on the map with a new mythology and tradition featuring fire, masks and music, as well as Cumbrian food and some carefully crafted mayhem. Already so embedded in the local imagination – it’s like it’s always been there! Every year bigger and better!
