The Lake District

On the 10th July 2017, the Lake District received World Heritage Site status, positioning us alongside destinations such as the Taj Mahal, the Tower of London and the Great Barrier Reef. We welcome you to join us to celebrate this achievement and visit the UK’s largest World Heritage site.

The Lake District, Cumbria, is a region of incredible beauty famous for its stunning scenery, abundant wildlife and cultural heritage. The area is made up of ancient woodlands and forest, river valleys, lakes, mountains and simply stunning coastlines.

The North lakes is much wilder than the South, with the Skiddaw mountain range dominating the town of Keswick. The lush Borrowdale valley leads to the dramatic Honister mountain pass and into the natural lakes of Buttermere & Crummock. The South & Central Lake District has the charming villages of Grasmere & Hawkshead along with England's largest lake, Windermere.

Adventure seekers can head West to the higher ground of Great Langdale where the giant fells of Bowfell, Crinkle Crags and the highest peak, Scafell Pike, reside.
