Askham Hall's annual Garden Extravaganza

A newly-expanded summer celebration will take place in the grounds of Cumbria’s Askham Hall on one of the longest days of the year, Sunday 17 June 2018.

Askham will be making use of the lighter, brighter nights to host its third annual summer fete complete with live music, garden games, family yoga and even gardening workshops for the more green-fingered.

The 9-hour garden extravaganza will get underway at 11am, with a series of local musicians entertaining visitors in the 12-acre gardens of this 13th century hideaway from 1.30 until 8pm.

The line-up will include acoustic folk singer Rachel Kraft, guitar vocalist Karl Hull and the lead singer of Carlisle band ‘Highly Strung’ Andy Whittaker. There will also be entertainment from Penrith Town Band.

A treasure hunt, face-painting and garden games such as giant jenga and a coconut shy will add to the feast of family fun. Visitors can also browse a variety of stalls, including local food and produce, crafts, seasonal gifts and plants.

The Kitchen Garden café will be open for lunch, including Askham’s famous wood-fired pizzas, which use seasonal ingredients direct from the gardens outside. Barbeque and beer will be available in the courtyard.
