The famous Coast to Coast Packhorse has eased the way for thousands of walkers from all over the world for several years.



The tumbling waterfall of Aira Force, drops an impressive 65 feet. Its roaring falls set amongst enchanting woodland and landscaped glades with cheeky red squirrels and perfect picnic spots make for a great family day out.

There are 8 waymarked walks and 5 waymarked cycle trails, plus the North Face trail, in the Grizedale Forest Park. Further information is available from the visitor centre where maps for all the trails can be purchased.



This four day walk through North-East Lakeland from Keswick on Derwentwater to Pooley Bridge on Ullswater, will inspire you with some of the best scenery the UK has to offer.

The Wainwright Memorial Walk follows his original route starting from Windermere and ending in Ambleside.



For beginners who want a flavour of the mountains, or for experienced walkers who want to tackle something a bit more adventurous.



The fells just west of Ambleside are gentler than the higher fells and offer a good introduction to those new to the Lake District.

As the A591 winds its way north from Ambleside to Keswick it passes close to the shores of Rydal Water and Grasmere offering glimpses of these two beautiful lakes.

The great peaks of Wetherlam, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and the Langdale Pikes rise up like a fortress wall and fill the skyline with dark craggy crests.

It's time to leave the Queens Hotel but day two is really quiet and restful taking in the old lanes and bridleways which weave in and out of all the interesting corners of Rydal, Grasmere, Loughrigg, Skelwith Bridge and Elterwater.

The Fairfield Horseshoe is probably the most famous of the classic Lake District rounds - this classic walk takes in all the peaks that surround Rydal.

Cutting deeply into the hills on the northern side of Ambleside, the wild and lonely valley of Scandale is a real surprise.
