Cycling & mountain biking in the Lake District

The Lake District was made for cycling, with challenging off road mountain biking routes to gentle country lanes. Enjoy the man-made off-road trails at Grizedale & Whinlatter, or try a classic cross-country route.

Bring the family and follow one of our family friendly cycling routes, enjoy tours by electric bike or sign up for a Sky Ride.

You can hire your bike (including electric bikes) once you are here, and there are plenty of electric charge points too.

The lanscape in Cumbria is unique. Find out more about the Cumbrian landscape and caring for the environment.

Fred Whitton Challenge

The Saddleback Fred Whitton Challenge is a 112 mile charity cycle ride around the Lake District, including the climbs of all the major Lakes passes.

Notoriously difficult, this event is held annually in memory of Fred Whitton, the racing secretary of the Lakes Road Club who died in 1998. This challenge raises money for several charities including Macmillan Cancer Support.
