Graeme Danby & Valerie Reid

Graeme Danby & Valerie Reid

International opera singers Graeme Danby and Valerie Reid, along with celebrated accompanist Lydia Newlands, present favourites such as The Gnu, A Transport of Delight, The Hippopotamus, The Gasman Cometh and the caustic humour of Tom Lehrer in I Hold Your Hand In Mine, The Irish Ballad, Agnes and the iconic Poisoning Pigeons In The Park.

This is an exciting event featuring two exceptional singers making their Rosehill Theatre debut.

Graeme was born in Consett, County Durham, and studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Canadian baritone Bruce Boyce. In an operatic career that now spans over 30 years, Graeme is recognised as one of the most prolific character bass soloists of his generation.

Mezzo-soprano Valerie studied at the former Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) with Patricia McMahon, the National Opera Studio and Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada, with Martin Isepp. She was the first opera singer to perform on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury and understands how the power and beauty of the voice can captivate an audience.

Husband and wife Graeme and Valerie are high-profile academics and are currently visiting Professors of Practice at the University of Cumbria. Valerie focuses on vocal development while Graeme deals with the day-to-day running and planning of the performing arts team alongside being strategic lead on many national projects.
