Details

Paul Archibald - Trumpet
Anthony Hewitt - Piano

We are thrilled to have Paul Archibald play at the Festival. Paul has been at the forefront of brass music in the UK for decades, as a solo performer, director, educator, arranger, and as a passionate ensemble player and member of several illustrious chamber groups - he is currently principal trumpet of the Britten Sinfonia and London Mozart Players.

His love of contemporary music is well known, and he is frequently invited to première new work, as well as commissioning pieces himself. He has also contributed widely to the literature with a number of arrangements of well-known works, as well as books and sheet music.

Paul's programme in the Festival’s first ever trumpet recital includes McDowall's superbly atmospheric The Night Trumpet, which was written for him, as well as his own arrangement of a selection of popular tunes from Bizet’s Carmen.

Programme:
Francaix - Sonatine
Takemitsu - Paths
Enescu - Légende
Damase - Hymne
McDowall - The Night Trumpeter
Bizet - Suite from Carmen (arr. Archibald)
"Paul Archibald is the consummate artist; a superb trumpeter, an artistic director full of innovative and workable ideas and one whose passion is to bring music to the widest possible audience.” Cecilia McDowall, Composer
