Serenades and Concertos

Jess Gillam - Saxophone
Anthony Hewitt - Piano
Paul Archibald - Trumpet
Yuri Zhislin - Director
Camerata Tchaikovsky Orchestra

We welcome the Russian virtuosi of Camerata Tchaikovsky to the festival who bring two much-loved and contrasting serenades for strings. Both are favourite works of the composers, one charmingly beautiful while the other is extrovert and passionate.

The string orchestra is joined by Ulverston's finest, Jess Gillam and Anthony Hewitt, who play Glazunov's deeply romantic Saxophone Concerto and Shostakovich's brilliant Piano Concerto no.1 respectively. Look out for the inspired addition of a trumpet soloist in the Shostakovich!

Elgar - Serenade for Strings in E minor,op.20
Glazunov - Concerto for Saxophone in E flat major for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra, op.109
Tchaikovsky - Serenade for Strings in C Major, op.48
Shostakovich - Concerto in C minor for Piano, Trumpet and String Orchestra, op.35
