The Great Western

The Great Western

The Great Western joins our other routes on Velo Retro Sunday adding a real, wild country adventure challenge to the weekend.

Starting less two hours before the other routes, you’ll take in two of the great British cycling passes and breakfast, before meeting the other riders at Coniston for the remainder of the day.

The linking of the routes means that you can ride the second half of the day with friends of different abilities and motivations – simply meet them at the Coniston food stop and decide what you want to do!

The Great Western is, without doubt a mountainous ride for those who crave a challenge – but at 123km, is still accessible for anyone who’s prepared to train. It also takes you to some of the most beautiful and remote places in the world!

Taking in Kiln Bank Cross, Wrynose Pass (from the sensible side!) Hawkshead Hill and Grizedale Moor Top in one stunning loop, it’s something that Bahamontes would have loved!

Regardless of the challenge, The Great Western will benefit from the usual Velo Retro Qualities; great fun, great food, great friendship and great support.

The Great Western: 123km + 2250mtrs
- 3 Food stops + Finish line food and beer
- Full support
- Event goodies.
