Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway

Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway

Step back into a bygone age and soak up the sights and sounds of the glorious age of steam. The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway is the original 'Park and Ride' scheme. Since 1869 this unique train/boat connection has provided the most spectacular of gateways to the Lake District. Journeying in nostalgic 1950's carriages hauled by one of the fleet of passionately restored and maintained steam locomotives.

Experience the engine working hard to pull the train up the steep gradients on this scenic 3.5 mile journey. The former Furness Railway branch line carries day trippers to the foot of Windermere, from there you can continue your journey onwards to Bowness or Ambleside on one of Windermere Lake Cruises elegant steamers.
