Machine Embroidery Landscape

Machine Embroidery Landscape

Details

Our art studio, set on a traditional Lakeland farm is surrounded by wonderful landscapes, which provide fantastic inspiration to help you create your own miniature masterpiece.Learn to draw with you sewing machine using the free machine embroidery technique and create a miniature landscape Sarah will introduce you to raw-edged applique and the basic techniques of free-machine embroidery which you can use to 'draw' with your sewing machine.

Sarah Ames is a Textile Artist working just outside the Lake District National Park in West Cumbria. Living within reach of the northern Lake District and the more industrial west coast, Sarah finds both of these areas a great inspiration for her work. Working from her lovely studio (a renovated summer house) in the garden, she uses applique and free-machine embroidery to create a range of contemporary, functional and decorative textile pieces.

Sarah Ames has a BA and MA in Contemporary Applied Arts from the University of Cumbria and is also a qualified teacher. Having left teaching a few years ago, she now has her own textiles business selling through galleries and art/craft events across the country and leading workshops in a variety of textile media.

The workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a converted Cumbrian barn on our traditional Lakeland Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay in one of our luxury camping pods on the farm.

All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a relatively new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.

From the A591 turn into Staveley and follow the road until you reach the village hall. Turn following the sign to Kentmere for 1 mile. The road turns right over a bridge. Ignore this and go straight on up Browfoot Lane, keeping left of the river, for about 2 miles. Goose Howe is the property before us. Four fields further, on the right, there's a sign on the right hand wall for Browfoot Farm. Turn in here. Down the drive; The Cowshed is ahead on the left, with the sign on the wall. For the car park take a right at the two red doors, past farm buildings and left just beyond the grey corrugated tin barn.
