Harvest Festival Wheat Sheaf with Kate Reid

Harvest Festival Wheat Sheaf with Kate Reid

A Cowshed Creative workshop near Kendal and Windermere

Details

Get in touch with a traditional rural activity - the celebration of harvest. Have fun creating an original salt dough wheat sheaf or similar, celebrating the abundance of crops, fruits and even hedgerow wildlife! A fantastic centre-piece or wall hanging that will last for years.

How to book and what to bring - check out our website below.

We will provide the dough, but you will be given details on how to make it and bake it at home once it is completely dry. There will be lots of ideas and suggestions to assist you with your designs, from traditional to Arcimboldi! Kate will be on hand to help, giving demonstrations on modelling techniques and one to one support.

Kate Reid trained at Central School of Art in London in textile design, which led to work as a freelance knitwear designer and textile specialist. She now runs her own successful costume hire company, designing and
making bespoke costumes for both theatre productions and film. Kate has also worked in art education on a wide range of major art projects and festivals. She is an inspiring teacher.

The workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay in one of our luxury camping pods on the farm.

All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education. .

From the A591 turn into Staveley and follow the road until you reach the village hall. Turn following the sign to Kentmere for 1 mile. The road turns right over a bridge. Ignore this and go straight on up Browfoot Lane, keeping left of the river, for about 2 miles. Goose Howe is the property before us. Four fields further, on the right, there's a sign on the right hand wall for Browfoot Farm. Turn in here. Down the drive; The Cowshed is ahead on the left, with the sign on the wall. For the car park take a right at the two red doors, past farm buildings and left just beyond the grey corrugated tin barn.

Lifts can be arranged from Staveley Train Station.
