Felt Landscape with Hazel Macfarlane

Felt Landscape with Hazel Macfarlane

A fun day at Cowshed Creative near Kendal and Windermere

Details

Interpret a special landscape or view into a beautiful felt panel. Bring along a photo or choose from one of ours and learn to blend colours and enjoy the wet felting process. You will work on 2 pieces; an A4 flat panel based on an A4 landscape or sunset and a second piece that works with resists and introduces texture and 3D elements to a picture. No prior experience needed.

How to book and what to bring - check out our website below.

Hazel Macfarlane: 'I trained as an architect and life took me from Glasgow to the Lakes via Norway, London and Germany. I discovered felting in Germany in 2002 and was fascinated with this amazing medium and the huge number of possibilities it offers just using wool fibres, soap, water and your hands (oh, and not forgetting a bit of muscle strength!). I started out using YouTube to understand the process and have since enjoyed a year of City and Guilds and the input of many other teachers both in Germany, the UK and Holland. I am fascinated by the textures that can be achieved and also the sculptural nature of the material. I also love that the felting process is very tactile and although the outcome can be planned it is never certain, making each project a journey of discovery.'

The workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay in one of our luxury camping pods on the farm.

All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.

From the A591 turn into Staveley and follow the road until you reach the village hall. Turn following the sign to Kentmere for 1 mile. The road turns right over a bridge. Ignore this and go straight on up Browfoot Lane, keeping left of the river, for about 2 miles. Goose Howe is the property before us. Four fields further, on the right, there's a sign on the right hand wall for Browfoot Farm. Turn in here. Down the drive; The Cowshed is ahead on the left, with the sign on the wall. For the car park take a right at the two red doors, past farm buildings and left just beyond the grey corrugated tin barn.

Lifts can be arranged from Staveley Train Station.
