“Cosy autumn get away for couples/friends”

Byre cottage is ideal for couples who enjoy countryside walks in the day and cosy evenings by the log burner, in a picturesque setting. Accommodation is comfortable and good quality, with everything you need, although we found it a little 'dark' hence perfect for winter breaks. Living accommodation is on the 1st floor and compact, with bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs. There are good walks from the house of varying difficulty - we did a loop over Cross Fell we found in one of the books at the house - be warned - it's boggy underfoot and paths are not clear. There are good, traditional pubs within a short drive - we used recommendations from the hosts and weren't disappointed. All in all - a perfect place to switch-off for a few days.

Sympathetic conversion of a 2-storey sandstone barn offering 2 or 3 bedroom accommodation, each with own ensuite or bathroom. Cottages have been inverted to enjoy the far reaching views of the Lakeland hills and Pennines from the living space. The living areas are open plan, with log burning stoves and fully-fitted kitchens which include oven, dishwasher and fridge. Master bedrooms include en suites along with king-size iron frame beds with quality mattresses ensuring a restful night.

Outside there is space to sit out and relax and enjoy the views and sun set over Blencathra and other Lakeland hills or peer down the uncovered 40ft well discovered in the conversion, made safe for those peering too far! Blencarn is situated in the Eden valley a short distance of the A66 enjoying peaceful surroundings away from the hustle of daily life. The village has a fly-fishing lake where day catch tickets can be bought Apr-Oct. Alternatively you can enjoy leisurely walks in and around the village or visit the local art studio.

The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Hadrian's Wall are all within easy reach allowing you to enjoy stunning scenery as you travel through the area. The North Pennines provide interesting routes for cyclists, motorists and those in search of interesting drives with Alston some 1900ft climb and Cross Fell at 890m for those with mountain bikes or a thirst for hill walking.

We welcome classic and sports car owners looking for secure garaging and the facility to carry out daily checks and running repairs or cleaning. Penrith and Appleby are close by offering traditional shopping with a good supply of local pubs close by serving locally sourced food on the menu. Available all year round with flexible options for short breaks available.
