Fell Pony

Details

3 day Swindale trek (approx 15km) We take you to one of the hidden corners of the Lake District, walking an ancient pack horse route with our traditional Fell ponies. We love getting away from people, and our treks are the perfect opportunity to switch off from technology and the modern world, and tune into the therapeutic beauty of the Cumbrian fells.

Day 1. Arrive in the afternoon/evening at our basecamp on the RSPB reserve at Haweswater where you will meet and make friends with our ponies. Share an evening meal cooked on a charcoal fire then observe the Naddle Farm badgers from the comfort of glass hide.

Day 2. After breakfast we load the packsaddles and head up the Swindale valley for a picnic lunch by the river and let the ponies rest. After lunch we trek to our wild camp where you can explore the waterfalls while we cook your evening meal on a charcoal fire. (7.5 Km)

Day 3. Slowly make our way over the Old Corpse Road onto Swindale Common where we stop for lunch. Climb the viewpoint for views of Haweswater and the Old Roman Road High Street, then head back to Naddle Farm. (7.5 Km)
Suitable for families and groups of all ages, we tailor our trips to ensure maximum comfort and an extraordinary experience that will remain with you. Sit round an open fire in stunning locations while we cook.

Sleep in our stylish Robens Tipi tents with the sound of nature around you, and walk through breathtaking scenery where time stands still. Our ponies carry all the basic equipment from pots and pans to mattresses and sleeping bags. All you need to bring is suitable all weather clothing and footwear while we take care of everything else.

This is an all weather expedition and we can’t promise that the sun will come out, but we can promise an amazing experience with our native Fell ponies in their natural environment the Lake District fells.

You can be as hands-on or as hands-off as you like with the ponies. Each expedition is led by 2 trained mountain guides and horse handlers so you don’t need to worry.
