Pre-concert talk at 6.45pm
Classically trained violinist Tim Kliphuis has been hailed as a contemporary improvising “Paganini” and is widely regarded as his mentor Stéphane Grappelli’s heir. He’s joined by three brilliant Scottish musicians, who together with his Trio, effectively form a string quartet plus guitar and bass.
In this semi-improvised programme, they’ll perform movements from their most recent works: ‘Reflecting the Seasons’ and ‘Brandenburg’. These interpretations of Vivaldi and Bach’s music create a profoundly musical blend of classical, gypsy jazz and folk music, all delivered with a ready humour and great finesse. There will also be works based on Duke Ellington and Grappelli, blurring the lines between musical forms.
