Mirehouse Historic House and Gardens

Mirehouse Historic House and Gardens

"Mirehouse is a "Manor from Heaven" according to Melvyn Bragg. It is set in the stunning landscape of the north Lake District between Bassenthwaite Lake and Skiddaw. The gardens include a tranquil walled garden planted for bees, a Poetry Walk, which celebrates the unique literary connections of Mirehouse and a rose terrace. Those wanting to venture further afield can enjoy the woodland and lakeside walk by Bassenthwaite Lake. Younger visitors can burn off energy in the natural, woodland playgrounds set alongside the main drive or follow the family nature trail to try and spot red squirrels, deer or woodpeckers. All our visitors can enjoy live piano music while appreciating the unusual collections in this relaxed and friendly family home. There is a chance for youngsters to play in the Victorian nursery, follow the history trail or find the owls.

Open April to October.
