A Herstory of Keswick

A Herstory of Keswick

Details

An important new account of Keswick’s story told through the eyes of women in a fascinating and interactive exhibition. Explore what life was like for women in the squalid Yards or relax in the comfort of the vicarage drawing room.

The exhibition will tell the stories of over 30 women - from perhaps the most celebrated and important woman, Catherine Marshall, who became a nationally important figure as Parliamentary Secretary for the National Union of Women Suffrage Societies (NUWSS) and suggested the Women's Suffrage Pilgrimage to London which culminated in a deputation to Prime Minister Herbert Asquith in 1913 to Mary Jane Wise just one of the many working class women who had to endure the hard labour and squalid conditions of the yards and industries Keswick.
