LAKES 3000s Challenge

LAKES 3000s Challenge

The Lakes 3000s is a challenge event that involves walking each of the Lake District Mountains that rise above 3000ft. These are also known as the Lakes 3000 Footers, whose summits include: Skiddaw (3,054ft), Helvellyn (3,117ft), Scafell (3,162ft) and Scafell Pike (3,209ft).

The Lakes 3000s is a major undertaking involving some 12,550ft of ascent and descent, 14 kilometres of walking over difficult terrain and exposure to the mountain elements for an extended period of time.
The Lakes 3000s is an excellent event to test your mental and physical resolve. A Lake District Guided Walk will assess your fitness and stamina, and be an indicator of your readiness for this event.

I strongly recommend signing up for a Lake District Guided Walk - join me, Dan, your experienced mountain leader, in an activity that will test your ability and improve your confidence in the great outdoors!

The Lakes 3000s are an excellent stand-alone event and can be used as stepping stone to complete the National 3 Peaks or Yorkshire 3 Peaks.
The day will begin with an ascent of our first 3000ft peak - Helvellyn (3,177ft). We will scale this mighty summit via Thirlmere* and glory in the views of Catstye cam, Swirral and Striding Edge.

From there we will travel to our second summit of the day - Skiddaw (3,054ft). We will travel to the top of the mountain via Latrigg, admiring the beautiful scenery of the Northern Lakes and beyond.
Once Helvellyn and Skiddaw are in the bag only Scafell and Scafell Pike await!

Finally we reach the stunning Wasdale valley** and work our way to the top of England; Scafell (3,162ft) and Scafell Pike (3,209ft). There is no better way to end the Lakes 3000s than stood atop the highest point in all the land!
Skiddaw Stage – 5 km 3.5 hours
Helvellyn Stage – 4.5 km 3.5 hours
Scafell Pike/Scafell Stage – 6 km 5 hours

Total = 13.5km 14 hours (2 hours driving time)
