We are delighted to welcome back Rowan Barnes-Murphy as Artist in Residence for our 2016 season. Having spent some time at the Hall last year Rowan has created a fantastic body of work, inspired by the house and gardens, which will be exhibited in the Bellingham Buttery Tea Room. The pictures will be available to buy with prints, cards and books also available in The Potting Shed Shop.
Since studying at the Cambridge Art School, Rowan has been a practicing freelance illustrator with clients worldwide. He works in many different fields from book publishing, newspapers and magazines to producing artwork for restaurants and animation. He has worked extensively in advertising, his artwork representing many major brands including Moet & Chandon, Sony, Mercedes-Benz and the Bank of Rome. He illustrated the Arts page of Punch for several years and his images can be seen on covers of the New York Times and other magazines. His popular gift book series, Too Soon for a Mid Life Crisis, has sold close to 1 million copies worldwide.
Rowan divides his time between homes in Somerset and the Poitou Charente region of France. The beautiful architecture and landscapes of both areas constantly inspire him to draw and paint, using pen and ink, watercolour washes and crayon, and this has led to him being commissioned to paint house portraits for private clients. For more details on private commissions for house or building projects, please contact Rowan via his website.
