Sawrey Knotts was built in 1861 by the Magistrate Robert Sowler as a stunning Victorian residence with great character. Top Garden Suite, with its elevated position and own private entrance at the top of the former house offers beautiful views above the rooftops to Lake Windermere and the surrounding countryside and as the name suggests has direct access to the gardens.

Set within three acres of shared grounds and garden, the area is a real haven for wildlife including red squirrels, badgers, a plethora of birdlife and the occasional red deer. The village of Far Sawrey is just a two minute walk, where the popular Cuckoo Brow Inn serves up great local food & a selection of fine ales. A further 10 minute walk will take you to Near Sawrey & Hill Top, the onetime home of Beatrix Potter and many cottages that feature in her little books and of course another village pub.

Top Garden Suite has walks directly from the front door including to two nearby National Trust properties; Hill Top and Claife Viewing Station, many local hill and woodland walks or to Windermere via the ferry.. Hawkshead, Grizedale Forest, Tarn Howes, Wray Castle, Brantwood House and the Langdales are all easily accessible by car. The options for cycling are endless.

Top Garden suite is in an incredibly quiet and peaceful location and so offers a great opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and to relax in beautiful surroundings located in easy reach of all the Lake District has to offer.

Accommodation in detail

A small wooden walkway leads from the driveway directly to the front door and the glass porch. The living room is bright and airy and has a very effective log burning stove, TV with Freesat & Blu Ray Player and has and views across the rooftops to the surrounding countryside and Lake Windermere beyond. There is a great collection of DVDs to choose from if you want to enjoy an evening in and a great selection of local books to help you plan your holiday.

The fitted galley kitchen, which also has views to Windermere, is well equipped and offers everything you could need to prepare everything from a hearty breakfast to a family dinner. The Kitchen also has views to Windermere to enjoy while cooking, grinding or pouring.

There are two well-furnished and comfortable bedrooms both with views to the grounds and gardens. The first bedroom can be made up either as a super-king bed or two 3' twin beds (please specify when booking) and a king-size double with vanity basin. The twin room has an additional TV & Blu-ray / DVD player. The bedrooms are complimented with a family bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and WC.

Outside the front door there is a lovely patio area with bistro table and chairs which again offers beautiful view across the grounds, surrounding area and on to Lake Windermere.

The village of Far Sawrey is a lovely countryside community set the west side of Lake Windermere and located on the old coaching road between the Windermere car ferry and the beautiful market town of Hawkshead.

But Beatrix Potter's footsteps can be traced right from the doorstep of Sawrey Knotts, in this prime location for walking and exploring. The close-by hamlet of Near Sawrey was the author's home, and her traditional Lakeland cottage can be visited at Hill Top. Esthwaite Water is a must-see during your stay; declared by Beatrix Potter as 'the most beautiful of lakes'. Near Sawrey's Tower Bank Arms is a renowned Lake District country pub, and featured in Beatrix Potter's books.

Hawkshead village is also only a short drive away. With its car-free cobbled streets, local shops, tea rooms and tempting delicatessens you'll find a leisurely day is well spent. Drive a little further and you'll reach Ambleside offering even more choice of sophisticated shops, cafes and acclaimed Lake District restaurants.
