Route Details
From Hawkshead Post Office in the centre of the village, head south past the Sun Inn to a T-junction. Go straight on signed ‘Newby Bridge’, passing by Esthwaite Water on the left.
Turn Right, signed ‘Dale Park’ to ride uphill steeply at first, with grand views of the fells from the summit, Descend into the quite valley of Dale Park, with lovely wild flower meadows in late spring and early summer.
Bear left, signed ‘Rusland Cross’into the Rusland valley, past Rusland Tannery and Rusland Beeches, across the Causeway to Bouth.
Turn right, signed ‘Force Forge’, uphill through the woods and across the gated road of Longmire
Bear right at the T-junction (care) signed ‘Grizedlae,’ after about 1.6 miles. Bear left by Force Mills. With waterfalls on the left and through Satterthwaite and Grizedale. Descend the long hill from Moor Top with care, especially the hairpin bend near the bottom.
Turn Left signed ‘Hawkshead,’ to return to Hawkshead.
