Swallows & Artisans

Details

We're excited to host the well-known wire sculptor, Chris Moss, at Swallows & Artisans. Chris uses a variety of metal materials, including new and recycled wire and mesh, to create stunning 3D sculptures particularly wild and domestic animals and birds. Chris has a love of nature and all her work reflects a detailed study of the anatomy and character of her subjects. Chris works on commissions and exhibits her work across the UK.

In this one day workshop you'll learn how to make a chicken wire sculpture of a hen or a duck. With lots of help and guidance, and using simple techniques, you'll make a sculpture of about 12 inches high that's suitable for display in the garden or indoors. Starting with a wire template and adding shape layer by layer you'll build your own fully three dimensional bird.

All tools and gloves are supplied for the duration of the workshop. Please wear an apron or casual clothes as wire can cause snags to precious textiles. Bring your specs if required for close work similar to reading or sewing. It isn't essential to have previous experience but please be aware that working with wire and making the numerous repetitive movements can sometimes be hard on fingers and wrists. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any queries about this.
