The Coniston Inn

The Coniston Inn

The Coniston Inn

Details

Located on the shores of Coniston Water with sensational lake and views, across the water, this classic Lakeland slate building has undergone an exciting refurbishment ahead of its reopening in Spring 2020.

If you’re looking for a place to escape the crowds, then The Coniston Inn will be the place to come. Formerly The Waterhead Hotel, the inn’s stunning water’s edge location makes it the perfect base from which to explore the Lakes with an abundance of attractions for visitors, whether your interests lie in the many literary connections the area has to offer or in outdoor pursuits.

The Coniston Inn has been a hotel for over 100 years and in its early days, the illustrious
Victorian artist and social critic, John Ruskin was a regular customer. Ruskin’s home, Brantwood, lies just across the water and many of his visitors, including Charles Darwin, would stay as guests at the hotel.

The nearby village of Coniston enjoys a long association with many notable literary figures. Tennyson spent his honeymoon here, Turner painted the mountain scenery and the author Arthur Ransome used Coniston Water as the setting for his famous ‘Swallows and Amazons’ series of books.

The Coniston Inn is a popular base for outdoors enthusiast including walkers and climbers scaling The Old Man of Coniston. One of the Wainwright Fells, reaching its summit is a true bucket list experience.

It is family and pet friendly, with its four-acres grounds perfect for four-legged guests.
