The Whitehaven to Ennerdale cycle path transports you from Cleator Moor to the tranquil shores of Ennerdale Water with increasingly splendid views of the craggy fells that surround it. The return leg brings you through the pretty village of Ennerdale Bridge with its attractive family friendly pubs and small shop. Then it’s onwards along quiet lanes, back to the little hump back bridge over the River Ehen, where there’s a grassy riverbank and seating area, and finally climb up to Wath Brow and back to Cleator Moor.

Route Details
1 START: From the three mining sculptures (by car park) go through gap between the red sandstone buildings and turn L along High Street
2 Tu r n L off the road at Phoenix Bridge and turn R on the cycle path to follow blue C2C 71 signs all the way to Kirkland
3 SA at the crossroads (signed Croasdale ). Turn R at next T-jct
4 Tu r n L at T jct and follow the tarmac road to Bowness Knot car park. Continue on gravel road to various picnic areas along lake shore
5 Return to Croasdale and go SA to Ennerdale Bridge
6 Bear L over bridge to return to Cleator Moor
7 Tu r n R then L down Ennerdale Road to return to the Market Square
