From above the shores of Derwentwater, Borrowdale presents an impressive picture - high peaks reflected in the lovely lake. The valley is a paradise for all walkers with low and high routes to suit all tastes. It's a playground for rock climbers too. Even if you don't climb, spare a few minutes to see what appears to be unclimbable rock faces being overcome. Shepherd's Crag is very accessible and also makes a great spot for a picnic. The Prince of Wales loves the valley and has stayed at Yew Tree Farm a number of times - but there are so many nice places to stay from hotels to B&B's that its so easy to discover your own very special piece of Borrowdale. Here are some more delights: the wooded stretch of the River Derwent near Grange; visiting the massive Bowder Stone or working your way up a winding path through trees to unexpectedly arrive at Surprise View - and yes, the view is sensational. And one of the best ways to get about is by bus with regular services running throughout the valley or by launch that has lots of stops around the lake.
