Our Needlework Tours & Residential Retreats

We host immersive needlework retreats and tours in the UK and Ireland for the historic needlework enthusiast. Hosted by Phillipa Turnbull and other embroidery specialists and tutors, these experiences are a bucket list essential for anyone wishing to take their needlework to the next level.

We take a maximum of twelve people in each class and all of our projects are created especially for us by top international embroidery tutors including Mandy Ewing, Jenny Adin-Christie, Nicola Jarvis, Meredith Willett, Kate Barlow, Alison Cole, Jane Nicholas, Jacqui Carey, Auburn Clare-Lucas, Zinaida Kazban, Jessica Grimm, Sarah Thursfield and Phillipa Turnbull.

"Our retreats combine hand-embroidery tuition with private visits to castles and museums in Britain and Ireland and specialist lectures on a wide range of embroidery subjects. Join us to study textiles from 16th-20th Century and explore the original techniques, beautiful designs and fascinating history, which influence and inform modern embroidery."

During our retreats you will study embroidery collections up close and personal in their original historic setting, be it a castle, a private country manor house, or by special arrangement in a museum. We plan our tours around exhibitions and special cultural events and meet the leading experts to discuss the latest research in the field of historic textiles. All of our retreats are led by needlework tutors.

Each retreat is unique. Our local knowledge and contacts allow us to access the very best British and Irish textile collections and curate incredible historic needlework experiences.

You will be taught how to discover the hidden secrets of historic embroidery so that you may draw inspiration from them to apply to your own work. Expert tuition is then designed to be a natural and appropriate follow on so that historic techniques may be understood and applied immediately.

Unless stated, all of our retreats include luxury accommodation (dinner, bed & breakfast), travel by luxury coach, needlework tuition, your workshop kit and all necessary materials/loan of equipment, all entrance fees to lectures, castles, country houses, museums and other special events.
