Ambleside into the Jaws of Great Langdale

Ambleside into the Jaws of Great Langdale

You will be guided on a traffic-free route out of Ambleside by British Cycling-trained leaders onto quiet minor roads to Skelwith Bridge. Here we go onto the new Langdale Trail, crossing over a gorge and across Elterwater Meadows by the crystal clear River Brathay. There is then some climbing on improved bridleways as we enter Great Langdale – a classic U-shaped glaciated valley.

Your efforts are well rewarded with a stop at the delightful Stickle Barn for refreshments! After warming ourselves by the fire, we head back down valley with different views and a stop at Skelwith Force waterfall.

More details can be found on the website.

The ride is ideal for active families and leisure cyclists who enjoy getting away from roads. The total distance is 16 miles with some climbing and descents on improved bridleways.

There is a minimum age of 8 years. All under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Nearby bike hire is available from Ghyllside Cycles, Ambleside.
