Skywatch @ Nenthead Mines

Nenthead Mines, Alston Moor (CA9 2SF)

Including a talk from Richard Darn on the 50th anniversary of the first man on the Moon and the Apollo 11 mission. He will be answering the question - what is the similarity between a modern toaster and the Apollo moon lander? These and scores more fascinating facts will be revealed as we backtrack and review the greatest of all human space achievements: the first manned missions to the Moon’s surface. We will also discover if we are about to catch up for lost time. When will humans return to our nearest neighbour? How will they do it and why are we going there again in any case? Astronomers from Bishop Auckland Astronomical Society will be on hand with their telescopes to do some live stargazing (weather permitting). Wrap up and bring a red light torch (if you have one). This event is part of the North Pennines Stargazing Festival running from 23 October to 3 November 2019 - #NorthPennStarFest19 #NPennDarkSkies
