Nenthead Mines Stargazing

Nenthead Mines Stargazing

We will start with a talk from Andy Gray on ‘Why Space Travel is Hard’ The talk will explore the science of travel, time and space and will consider why humans need to travel into space. Venue - Nenthead Mines. Advance booking only. We will look at the science of what is involved to get us into space (relatively easy), onto the moon (a bit trickier but we have already been) and other planets in the solar system (much more awkward). Finally we will consider how likely it will be for humans to ever travel to other stars or galaxies. After Andy’s talk astronomers from Bishop Auckland Astronomical Society will be on hand with their telescopes to do some live stargazing (weather permitting) with us. Wrap up warm and bring a red light torch (if you have one). This event is part of the North Pennines Stargazing Festival running from 20 October to 4 November 2018 -
