Workington Public Art
In recent years, several eye-catching artworks have been commissioned to provide interactive focal points for the town centre. The Hub on Washington Square brings the atmosphere of Workington to life with lighting effects and 3D sound. Lookout on Ivinson Lane is a giant clock, recording the hour on a central ring above the sphere with a suspended rotating arm indicating the minutes on the ground. Chimes play on the hour and half hour, and a built-in camera relays images that are viewable through one of the portholes on the body of the clock. Elsewhere, sculptural elements have been inserted into gates, railings and seats to create a pleasant shopping environment.
