    “A disappointing/expensive 2 night break”

We stayed for 2 nights at Burnside; with 2 children aged 2 &9. Having contacted the hotel directly to discuss our booking, on arrival we were put in room 346? Which has a mezzanine level that the children were meant to sleep.in. Not ideal for a 2yr old due to steep stairs that accessed it. Room was dated/dusty; carpet was dirty, bed like a brick and room was so hot as up in attic, it rained 1st night and felt like we were staying in a caravan in a storm. Afer v little sleep I was looking forward to a shower to wake me up; it was more of a trickle! & actually stopped completely several times. I reported this to reception within 45 MINUTES (as nobody on desk on way down to breakfast) only to be told that they like to know about these things straight away, as we were staying 2 nights I requested a room change, young man I spoke to informed me it would be over an hour before manager was in to ask. We went back half an hour later to inform them that we were going out (only a short break and we didn't want to sit in hotel for hours) different member of staff informed us we could move but would have to return by midday in order to do this. We have never requested a room change anywhere previously but had genuine reason for this move which was questioned by staff at Burnside. Second room much more practical for a young family and room clean and modern. Breakfast choice good; although queues for hot food on first morning not the best but staff regularly bringing fresh dishes out. Attached spa great for adults/children but again pool area tired and in need of modernisation. Disappointed that 1st night cost £145, (in total over £300) for 2 nights and not even a complimentary round of drinks offered for inconvenience of having to change rooms part way through trip. An expensive trip for 1 decent nights accommodation.
