Water lilies and Dragonflies

Idyllic walk around a secret tarn only 2 miles from Bowness on Windermere.

One of my favourite walks with Toby, my flat coated retriever, is to Podnet Tarn, above Winster village. It's only about 2 miles from Windermere but could be in the middle of nowhere.

At this time of year, the lake is covered in water lilies and if you are lucky to choose a sunny day, there are scores of dragonflies darting from flower to flower.

You can incorporate Podnet Tarn into several lovely circular walks which take in nature reserves, views of the Lakeland fells and, depending on your route, several excellent pubs.

Podnet Tarn isn't actually named on the Ordnance Survey map so I'm tempted to keep its location a secret but that would be a shame! Several lovely walks which include the tarn can be found in the Crosthwaite and Lyth Valley Damson Walks http://www.crosthwaiteandlyth.co.uk/damsonwalks9.html
