As we had such fun last year we decided to give the GNS'09 a go. It was much more organised and the weather was brilliant which made it great fun for swimmers and spectators.
This year the GNS'09 was held over two days and 6,000 competitiors took part. Swimmers are set off at 30 minute intervals, called waves, and each wave wears a different colur swimming cap. We were in the 9:30am start on the Saturday morning. It was a misty morning but the sun soon burnt this off the lake and it became a clear, sunny day.
This year we had to park in Ambleside and walk to the Low Wood, parking was fine, but we were quite early. The event seemed to be much more organised than the previous year, and we all really enjoyed it. The water didn't seem that cold, I think it was about 15.3 degrees C, but with the warm sun shining I didn't feel cold and the view from the lake was stunning. Open water swimming is fantastic and the scenery looks so different from the water. Needless to say we will all be doing it again in 2010.
