Details

Mellfell House Farm is situated at 1000 feet, high up in the hills west of Ullswater on the slopes of Little Mellfell, in outstandingly beautiful surroundings. We keep cats, dogs, horses, sheep, a cow and lots of ducks and hens on our 17 acres, and visitors are generally free to wander around the farmyard, paddock, picnic area and fields.

Our old barns have been converted into 6 delightful, cosy, comfortable, spotlessly clean cottages retaining many traditional features. All are fully equipped with free Wi-Fi and have open fires, gas central heating, 4-poster beds and dishwashers. Children are welcome and we can provide cots and high chairs. Three cottages take dogs and three don't take dogs. We have a laundry with washer, dryer, iron and ironing board, and a freezer with a shelf for each cottage. There is also a drying room for wet outdoor clothes and boots.

We have lovely walks from the door, including an 8-mile circular walk to Aira Force waterfalls over Gowbarrow, of Wordsworth's Daffodils fame. There is easy access to the high and not so high fells, and for touring the Lakes and the Eden Valley. Within a short drive are facilities for water and mountain sports, pony trekking, fishing, cycling etc. and also lots of places to eat.

“warm and cosy, well equipped ”

always a good place to stay, but i think the beds need an upgrade, they are getting tired
the floor in the back bedroom needs attention. it is very noisy and squeaky, which disturbs residents in the other room
