Car Park

The Lake District National Park Authority manage car parks around the National Park, as do the National Trust and local councils. There are also free smaller car parks in more remote areas.
This car park is above the village and is on the site of the long dismantled Coniston Railway station. This car park is ideal for those wishing to walk the Coniston Fells or ascend to the summit of the “Old Man” as it lies at the foot of the Walner Scar road, a popular access point to the fells. It is also possible to walk to Torver along the line of the railway from here.
Please consider alternative modes of transport and check out public transport. The area offers some of the best scenery and walking terrain in the Country and provides an opportunity to give your car a rest.
Monk Coniston car park is on the shore of Coniston Water at the head of the lake at the northern end. It is possible to launch small, non powered craft from this location.
Walks from here include a short walk along the side of the lake. There are also walks to Monk Coniston gardens and Tarn Hows. It is also possible to reach Brantwood and Grizedale Forrest. Coniston launch calls at the nearby pier.
