Beginners Artistic Blacksmithing & Metal Forging at Quirky Workshops @ Greystoke Cycle Cafe
Adrian & Bill arrived early with all the kit and set it up on the cafe lawns. During first coffee & biscuits he went through some of the exciting work he'd been involved with and showed the group what they might expect to make during the day.
Enter six potential arty blacksmiths c/w enthusiasm and a lovely calm day in the garden and you have the ingredients for an inspiring and creative blacksmithing day.
After a safety talk and with furnaces lit Adrian will explain basic principles, the colours of hot metals, malleability, temperatures and the importance of getting just the right temperature for the right task. The group will then start with creating a point on the piece of metal, quickly moving onto curves, bends and scrolls, punching, spreading and splitting.
After practice, you should be able to make at least one of several items including toasting fork fire poker, candle-stick etc.
A unique opportunity for a really full-on day experience.
