Tebay
Just off the M6 lies the village of Tebay, which has fantastic views out to the Howgill Fells and the northern edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The village has two churches, a shop and post office and pretty walks along the banks of the River Lune, which as it flows down from the high Pennines towards Lancaster, provides one of the scenic highlights of the area.
TV chef Clarissa Dickson Wright recently rated the motorway service station at Tebay as the "finest in England, with its wonderful shop full of Cumbrian delights".
The service station is housed in log cabins imported from Finland, and is located next to a pond where visitors can feed the ducks or walk their dogs.
