whinlatter and lorton...

From the forested heights of Whinlatter the old drover's road descends to the gently shelving Vale of Lorton - a bucolic landscape of verdant pastures, riverside hay meadows, fellside woods and hidden farmhouses.

Here the River Cocker sleepily wends its way north from Crummock Water to Cockermouth, passing by the pastoral villages of Low and High Lorton.
