village of Millom has a varied history with a rich industrial heritage. The Millom area has something of interest for everyone including golf, fishing, horse riding and pony trekking. Hodbarrow lighthouse has been recently restored and the nature reserve at Hodbarrow is a must for bird watchers.

did you know...

Millom Rugby League Football Club claims to be one of the oldest amateur rugby league club in the world.

Norman Nicholson, the internationally renowned poet, lived virtually all his life in the same house in St George's Terrace in Millom!

The gravestone of John Noble in St John's churchyard at Corney records his life as being 114 years long (1658-1772)!

A 1745 plaque on a house wall at Holborn Hill advertises ‘gides' (guides) for crossing the sands of the Duddon estuary.

A quarter of the UK's population of natterjack toads are found in the Millom area.

Richard Woodall's shop in Waberthwaite (www.richardwoodall.com) is a must for discerning sausage lovers. Eight generations of the same family have ensured the shop has gone from strength to strength with the ‘crowning' achievement being the award of a Royal Warrant in 1990 to supply the Queen with Cumberland sausage and traditional Cumberland hams and bacon.
