With it's cobbled streets and hidden courtyards, Alston is the highest market town in England. Surrounded by the villages of Garrigill and Nenthead, the area has a history in lead mining. If you are doing the Coast to Coast or Pennine Way, both routes pass through Alston. Accommodation is varied including a number of hotels, b&b's and self catering cottages.
