Beekeeping for Beginners 16hr Weekend Course at Quirky Workshops @ Greystoke Cycle Cafe
These weekend 16 hour courses which include both theory and practical sessions (weather and bees permitting), are designed to equip beginners adequately to keep their own bees at home. They are run along BBKA course guidelines however with an accent on minimal use of chemicals where possible. By the end of the weekends you should have enough knowledge and inspiration to become a self reliant beekeeper!
Tutor Neil Cruickshank has been Beekeeping for many years and has some 12 hives throughout the Eden Valley in a variety of locations.
Many of us recognise the huge importance of bees for our environment, food and future, and yet bee colonies around the world are succumbing to disease and collapse.
For those of you keen to adopt a more natural and chemical-free approach to beekeeping please see our beginners natural bee keeping course. Please see our website for full details.
Some bee suits will be available for use- however we ask those who are able to bring/ their own or borrow from a friend to do so if they can.
There is also a Natural Beekeeping Day with Dr David Heaf on Good Friday at the Cycle Cafe. Dr Heaf is a national authority on Bee Friendly Beekeeping - and this is becoming a very popular approach using top bar hives which emulate the bees natural environment
This day is offered at a reduced price if taken as an add on the conventional weekend course - please see website.
Prices
£145 including lovely 2 course lunches and refreshments.
