A great family day out exploring the West Coast. A real travel adventure. Hop on the bus and venture West to explore Cumbria's coast and castle. Explore further on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway then spend the afternoon at Muncaster - a historic, haunted castle. Please note - times are based on the summer timetable (21st July - 30th August). Times will vairy slightly at other times.

Catch the X33 from Waterhead, Ambleside at 9.26am or hop on in Coniston, Torver or Broughton-in-Furness. Get the combined ticket which includes a trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. £12.95 for adults, £6.50 Children, under 5's go free. Arrive at Ravenglass at 11:11 and catch the 11:30 steam train to Dalegarth. Watch the beautiful scenery as it goes by and keep your eyes peeled for red squirrels along the way. Have a brief stop at Dalegarth then head back to Ravenglass on the 12.30 train.

After lunch take the short walk (about 1 mile) to Muncaster Castle. There are two routes from the train station either via the main road which is about a mile and will take 20-30 minutes or via the Eskdale Cycle Trail (signed). This will take you past the Roman Bath House and through delightful scenery, but will take you between 30 and 40 minutes to walk. Show your bus ticket to get 25% off entry to Muncaster. Adults £13, Children £7.50, under 5's free. Explore the Castle and grounds and make sure you visit the meadowvole maze and World Owl Centre. Happy and tired, catch the 16:30 bus from Muncaster car park back to your destination.
