Catch the X33 from Waterhead, Ambleside at 9.26am or hop on in Coniston, Torver or Broughton-in-Furness. Get the combined ticket which includes a trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. £12.95 for adults, £6.50 Children, under 5's go free. Arrive at Ravenglass at 11:11 and catch the 11:30 steam train to Dalegarth. Watch the beautiful scenery as it goes by and keep your eyes peeled for red squirrels along the way. Have a brief stop at Dalegarth then head back to Ravenglass on the 12.30 train.

Enjoy lunch at the Turntable Cafe at Ravenglass Station. Tuck into a varied menu and homemade cakes and bakes.

After lunch take the short walk (about 1 mile) to Muncaster Castle. There are two routes from the train station either via the main road which is about a mile and will take 20-30 minutes or via the Eskdale Cycle Trail (signed). This will take you past the Roman Bath House and through delightful scenery, but will take you between 30 and 40 minutes to walk. Show your bus ticket to get 25% off entry to Muncaster. Happy and tired, catch the 16:30 bus from Muncaster car park back to your destination.
