The house was built in the Tudor period and added to in the Georgian era. It was the home of the headmaster of the former Grammar school (now a museum) where William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian were pupils. The house has a lovely lounge, and a grand dining room with additional easy chairs for quiet reading. We offer king sized beds with Egyptian cotton bedding, hospitality trays. In the afternoons, guests can make a hot drink with cake/biscuits in the dining room or have a complimentary glass of sherry. At breakfast we have a buffet table with cereals, croissants, fruit, yogurts and juice. We serve porridge and a full English breakfast followed by toast. Fresh coffee and choice of teas are also available.
There is a large secluded garden and a garage for cycles.
The house is within five minutes walk to the centre of historic village of Hawkshead with its alleyways and cobbled lanes. Eateries, coffee shops and specialist shops are in the village. Nearby are walks, Grizedale forest and Esthwaite water. Windermere and Coniston are within a few miles.

Just past the pay and display car park, a junction in the road bends towards the right. However, straight opposite, there is a gateway into the drive of the Old Grammar school museum. Turn left in front of the museum building, and down a narrow lane. At the end of the lane (less than 50 yards), turn left and park alongside the Old School House. Alternatively, in front of the house, there is a five barred gate which also leads in the car parking area.
Train: The nearest station is Windermere (8 miles). There are taxis outside the station.
Bus: There are Stagecoach buses which run all year round. The local service is the 505 between Ambleside and Coniston via Hawkshead. This service goes to the Coniston lake launch which is fully accessible. Another bus is the Cross Lakes Shuttle' 525 between Bowness and Grizedale via Hawkshead.
