love your lakes...

Creating a future for our lakes by improving our performance today. The beauty of Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake attract thousands of visitors to the area each year. The water quality of these lakes is under threat from phosphates, so we all need to do our bit to protect them. Phosphates are found in many cleaning products but by making small simple changes we can all love our lakes...

Catered accommodation

Wash less often - Your hotel or guesthouse may have a towel policy to reduce unnecessary laundry, support this.

Self catering

Use less - If you will be washing your clothes while on holiday, remember Cumbria is a soft water area. You will get the same results using less washing detergents

Consider using phosphate free products - There is a wide range of alternatives available.

Love your Lakes campaign is run by the Tourism and Conservation Partnership with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund through Bassenthwaite Reflections and the Environment Agency.

The campaign is all about engaging the local community, visitors and tourism businesses - raise awareness of water quality issues in that area and how easily everyone can make a difference by simply changing their detergent and using less cleaning product.
