Cross Lakes ShuttleCross Lakes Shuttle

For a great day out, whether you want to go walking, cycling, sightseeing, shopping, or a bit of each, choose the Cross-Lakes Shuttle. Windermere Lake Cruises, Mountain Goat, and Coniston Launch have teamed up to take you across the lakes, Windermere and Coniston and into the heart of the south lakes countryside and villages, with this exciting boat-bus-boat service, which even carries cycles!* From Bowness-on-Windermere pier you are taken on a 15 minute cruise across Windermere lake to Ferry House. From here a minibus will be waiting to carry you to Hawkshead, passing the enigmatic Esthwaite Water and travelling through the heart of Beatrix Potter country. The minibus calls at Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's home. Once you have reached the quaint village of Hawkshead, you have the option of travelling to Grizedale Forest or Coniston. Grizedale Forest is well suited for family walks and cycle rides. It is possible to walk through the forest to Brantwood and Monk Coniston, where you can meet up with the Coniston leg of the Shuttle. On the Coniston leg, after leaving Hawkshead the minibus calls at idyllic Tarn Hows, and then drops down to Monk Coniston. Here you catch the Coniston Launch which sails down to Brantwood, the last home of the writer John Ruskin, across to Coniston pier, and then returns to Monk Coniston via the Waterhead Hotel jetty. From here you can catch the minibus back to Ferry House.

* No cycle carriage available between Haawkshead and Coniston.
** This service is seasonal.
