Torver and the nearby Crake & Woodland Valleys, are beautiful and tranquil areas well worth visiting and exploring. The landscapes here have changed little over time, with farming and forestry still very much in evidence. In springtime the nearby woods that dot the landscape are carpeted with wild garlic and scented bluebells, and is a place where the wildlife and bird song of the Lake District can be truly appreciated. Torver is home to a great pub, popular cafe and enjoys easy access to both the lake for water sports and the fells for walking.

The nearby village of Coniston is simply an excellent base for any Lake District holiday. The village is packed with friendly pubs, local shops and lively cafes and there is incredible walking straight from the village centre, including the iconic Coniston Old Man. The village enjoys ample access to Coniston Water lake shore, with Coniston Boating Centre offering paddle-boarding, kayaking, sailing and more. There are also plenty of opportunities for wild-swimming including the lake, beautiful mountain tarns and the picturesque Church Beck river with its stunning waterfalls and deep, crystal clear pools. For cyclists, there are spectacular off-road mountain biking trails including those at nearby Grizedale Forest, as well as some stunning road routes through some of the country's most beautiful scenery.

For those who enjoy a quieter pace, The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell is a must visit. While on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood, the Victorian home of John Ruskin, where visitors can explore the historic house and vibrant arts centre and enjoy some delicious food from The Terrace cafe with its breath-taking lake and mountain views.

The wider Lake District area is also very easily accessible from Coniston, with popular destinations such as Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere just a short drive away.

In short, Coniston offers everything you could possibly want of a Lake District holiday - all right on your doorstep.

We stayed at Cragg Cottage in Torver near Coniston on the recommendation of an article in Lancashire Life. Wow!! Is all I can say. We were a family of four and a toddler so you can imagine it would be a busy household, but the location and the size of the property were perfect for space and relaxation. There was so much attention to detail and everything in the house was premium quality. The outdoor hot tub was the jewel in the crown. We stayed for a week and could have stayed longer. There was a pub nearby, within walking distance along a path avoiding the main road and Coniston was a very short ride away. Not the cheapest property we have stayed in, so if you are looking for cheap and cheerful, this property is not for you. But, as the old saying goes 'you get what you pay for' and we certainly felt we got our money's worth. We would definitely return if visiting South Lakes again.

We were a party of 4 plus an infant and a dog. Plenty of room for everyone. The cottage was amazing. There is so much attention to detail and everything was of the highest quality. In a perfect location. Quiet and private but not isolated. The hot tub was the star of the show, maintained regularly during our week's stay. The booking process was straightforward and all queries were answered promptly. The cottage was ready for us several hours before our arrival time which was a bonus. The views were stunning. A nice short walk to the pub along a path at the back with Coniston and surrounding areas only a short drive away. There is nothing we would have changed. Just perfect and would return in a heartbeat next time we want a break in the Lakes,

We stayed at Cragg Cottage and arrived late a night. As we arrived at the cottage from the Coniston direction we saw the cottage with its welcoming lights and warmth which hit you once you entered. The underfloor heating was a delight. Everything within the cottage was of an extremely high standard. The cottage had many walks from its doorstep and the hot tub was fantastic for chasing away all the aches after a long walk. We will definitely be booking again thank you.

This was my third visit to Cragg Cottage and don't think it will be my last. As mentioned in previous reviews, this cottage is first class and fitted out with first class fittings and furnishings. Everything you could possibly need is provided. Thanks to Jane and Simon for their attention to detail and also for the welcome hamper.

We loved our time here at Cragg Cottage. The location of the cottage was great, quiet, and isolated, with great walks from the front door. The cottage had everything we needed and the bag of gifts was the icing on the cake. We loved relaxing in the hot tub, or eating outside on the rear patio. The beds were extremely comfortable and the whole cottage felt very luxurious. We will hopefully be back soon.

Beautiful cottage in so many aspects. Decor, layout and practical aspects e.g. porch for boots, coats. Location ideal but secluded and great views. The hot tub was a real treat.

We had a fabulous stay in Cragg Cottage, and without doubt it was the best self catering cottage, we have ever stayed in. The quality of the fixtures and fittings, decor and location of cottage was superb. As dog owners it was wonderful to be able to let the dogs outside without worrying they would escape.

We felt welcomed to Cragg Cottage the moment we telephoned Coppermines to book our week away. It definitely is a home away from home. The cottage was extremely clean, had a hot tub, WiFi and everything else we needed for a family holiday in the Lakes. Close enough to Coniston to walk or drive and central to all our day time activities. We will return and rebooked.

Amazing house in a beautiful location. A short walk to Coniston from the cottage via footpaths. The facilities in this cottage are fantastic and it was spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the hot tub, especially on the days the weather was a little cold. Five stars and we will return.

We have enjoyed a wonderful week in this beautiful cottage. We have walked from the cottage to Coniston and enjoyed eating out most nights in the village at The Steam Bistro & The Black Bull. We knew the cottage would be lovely having stayed many times at Gate House and we call this cottage "our little Gate House". Thank you!

I chose Coppermines because of the quality of the cottages on offer through it. A quality service but with a local, personal feel to it. I can't think of anything that could be improved. We have loved our stay and the whole booking process and information in the lead up was professional, friendly and spot-on. We would definitely return to Cragg Cottage. Perfect!

How lucky we were with the weather this week! It's been sunny every day. Cragg Cottage is stunning. And better than home from home (there's a few styling and decorating ideas we're taking home with us)! This is our perfect house. Eating out wise; Our Plaice in Coniston is great and The Wilson's Arms up the road does delicious food. Fab walks from the doorstep too, Thank you!

Another gorgeous cottage ,having stayed several times at both Gate House and Roseberry Cottage, the hot tub is a real luxurious addition to the already beautifully appointed Cragg Cottage. The secure garden is also a real benefit. We'll be back (hopefully). Many thanks as always!.

Beautiful cottage which we've enjoyed immensely. Standard is superb and thoroughly deserves a 5 star rating. We explored Coniston, Ambleside, Windermere and Tarn Hows. Here's a path to Torver out of the cottage. One of our best Christmas's ever!

Beautiful new property for Coppermines agency. We have stayed in Gate House in Coniston a few years ago so we knew the standard of this property would be of high quality given it has the same owners. The property fully deserves the 5 star rating. Thoroughly enjoyed our pre-Christmas break walking break. Thank you very much.
