proper tea in a proper tea room...

Ulverston is a great cobbled street town with its own unique charm. Full of friendly independent specialist shops, old world pubs as well as a wide selection of cafés and restaurants. Gillam's Tea Room is a great example of what is on offer in the town and well worth a trip in its own right. It's traditional, but with very friendly staff, it's vegetarian and mostly organic, with a good choice for vegans.
All the food is freshly prepared and delicious, the tea is fantastic and you will get good value for money. It's very popular so you may have to wait for a table at busy times but it's well worth it. The tea room is spread over two floors, the upstairs being my favourite and in the summer you can sit outside on a balcony. Here you can enjoy proper tea in a proper tea room and maybe read the papers too. Gillam's is a great café and a step back in time.
